When you read the title of this post, the tendency is for your mind to go directly to your natural giftedness or personal resources, and certainly that is applicable. However, one of the resources we, as a church have invested in for you is called RightNow Media ( http://www.rightnowmedia.org ) and this is such a valuable tool. A couple of posts ago I spoke of the importance and practicality of worshipping in your home as a family, and this resource can make things so much easier for you as you strive to do this. If you are a member, or even visitor of Trinity, you have access to this and as a Church we are paying for this because we genuinely see it as a great ministry to you and our entire community. I am mentioning this because I received this letter and I believe it will help some of you in your work place. Let me know what you think or if you have any questions.
This summer my 9 year old son began helping to mowing our lawn. As a dad I am proud of his desire to “put his hand to the mower” and learn what it’s like to do hard work. By the way … we are in Texas where mowing means battling 100 degree heat.
I believe that God is honored when we work with diligence and excellence. Many people spend a great deal of time at work and yet they don’t see how their work intersects with their faith. One of our passions at RightNow is helping people realize that there isn’t a divide between the sacred and secular parts of our lives and that working with our God-given skills can be an act of worship.
As a leader I wanted to point out three resources about work and faith that might help you engage others on this important topic:
RightNow Media @ Work is a new website we just launched to specifically help the Christian business owner care for their employees and develop their leaders. This faith-based video library is one way that Christian business owners can put their faith into action at their company. http://www.rightnowmediaatwork.org
Closing the Sunday to Monday Gap is a short overview on the theology of faith and work. Tom Nelson is a pastor who has been studying and implementing these principles for years. If you are a pastor, teacher or group leader this will give you a great perspective. https://www.rightnow.org/Training/Course/View/1077
Work as Worship is a Bible study that’s designed for any Bible study class or small group to go through. Pastor JD Greear helps the employer and employee and stay-at-home parent understand how their faith integrates with their work. https://www.rightnow.org/Content/Series/674
I hope you will consider ways to help lead people to not leave their faith on the shelf when going to work. To see all our resources on this topic you can visit our Work library – https://www.rightnow.org/Library/12
